How To Take Screenshots Of Android Phone On PC
If you are using an Android version later than 4.0 then you don’t need to install any third party app either in your device or in your PC to take screenshot because devices with higher versions of Android have built in function and capability to take screenshots. There are several apps available in App Stores for rooted Android phones which gives functionality to take screenshots but if you are using an older version of Android and your phone is not even rooted so you can take screenshots of your phone by using Google’s Android SDK.
Step 1 :
To take screenshots on your PC , firstly you need to download and install Java Development Kit in your system. You may download JDK from official website of oracle from the link given below but make sure that you download 32-bit version of JDK even if you have 64-bit version of Windows installed in your computer because Android SDK supports only 32-bit version.
Here you will see downloading links for JDK. Simply follow several steps as shown in pic given below and your download will start.
Firstly click on Java icon , a new window will open then accept the License agreement by clicking on radio button and then finally Download the Windows x86 version of JDK.
Step 2 :
Once you have done with installation of JDK in your computer , download and install Android SDK from Google’s Android developer’s website. Link is given below :
You will see a simple download button on the site. Click on that Download button , Accept the terms and conditions given on page and select version of software (32-bit) as shown in pic given below and begin downloading.
Step 3 :
Once you install these two softwares in your computer you have successfully completed basic requirements to take screenshots. Now click on Menu button and search for SDK Manager. You will see shortcut of SDK manager , double click to run the program ( or right click and click on Run as Administrator if you dont have all rights assigned ).
In Android SDK manager window , check the Android SDK Platform-Tools under the Tools folder. It will install the adb utility i.e. Android Debug Bridge utility.
After installing these package of tools , make sure that drivers of your phone are installed in your computer. If you regularly connects your phone to computer for data transfer or software update purposes then drivers might be already installed there but if not you will need to install drivers too. For example if you own a Samsung device then install Samsung Kies in your computer or any PC suite depending on your phone.
Step 4 :
Enable USB Debugging in your phone. You can do it under Settings > Applications > Development > Check USB Debugging option
After enabling USB debugging in your phone , connect it to computer using USB cable. Computer will automatically install the required drivers for it.
Go to the path C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk and run the ddms.bat file from given files.
You can make it easier or future use by creating a shortcut for this process.
Once you run this Dalvik Debug Monitor , you will see your Android deice connected. Now simply click on the device and click on Screen Capture.
After taking the screenshot , you will get a few more options. You can either save it to your computer using Save button or you can use Refresh button to take a new screenshot , you can use Copy button to copy captured screenshot to clipboard , You can rotate screenshot to any direction by using Rotate button or You can simply close window by clicking on Done button.
So in this way , you can take screenshots of your android phone if it doesn’t have any inbuilt function to do so.
