Content and Design Guidelines for SEO

  • Create a site with clean hierarchical text link navigation. Every page within the site should be reachable from at least one static text link. Site should have strong internal linking.
  • Offer a site map to your users with links that point to the important parts of your site. If the site map is larger than 100 or so links, you may break the site map into separate pages.
  • Create descriptive unique content pages and avoid creating doorway pages.
  • Step into the surfers shoes and decide the keywords that a surfer would use to search sites. Make sure that your site really includes those keywords within it.
  • Substitute images with simple texts to display important content or links.
  • TITLE and ALT tags should be accurate and descriptive.
  • Make sure that the source code is correct and check for duplicate links, broken links and dead links.
  • If you are using dynamic pages (i.e., the URL contains a “?”Character), then be aware that every search engine spider cannot crawl dynamic pages. So try to keep the parameters/variables short.
  • Don’t keep more than 100 links on a page.
